FAQ
What will happen when I arrive?
You will be greeted by a steward who will welcome you and show you to a seat.
What happens during the service and how long will it last?
The service will last for about an hour and we usually serve refreshments after the service when you may like to stay and get to know us.
During the service there will be a time of worship which usually includes singing, prayers and a short talk aimed at the younger people. There will be one or two readings from the bible one of which will be explored more during the service. An offering is usually taken towards the beginning of the service, the money we collect goes towards supporting specific charities and to the work we are doing at Downend Baptist Church.
On the first Sunday in a month during an evening service, and on the third Sunday as part of the morning service, we share communion, this is open to all who wish to take part. The bread and the wine will be brought to you where you are seated; if you would prefer not to take part simply make it clear to the servers, they will then offer the tray to the next person.
What is available for my children?
If you have young children we have crèche facilities for children from 0 to 3 years. There is a group for children aged 3 years to reception age and a group from year 1 to year 6. The children stay in the service for the first 15 minutes before they go out with the teachers and helpers to their groups. They can stay with you or sit with the teachers the first part of the service and you would be welcome to go out with your children to the groups to settle them. You can find more details about these groups by clicking on the groups tab at the top of the page.
What about my teenagers?
There is a Youth Group which meets on a Sunday morning they also stay in church for the first 15 minutes and then go out to their group. You can find more details about this group by clicking on the groups tab at the top of the page.
What if I have specific needs?
We have a ramp leading from the pavement into the church; access to most areas is on the ground floor, though the children’s groups meet in rooms which are upstairs. We have disabled toilet facilities. In the main body of the church we have movable chairs which can easily accommodate wheelchairs.
We have a loop system if you have a hearing impairment and currently have one of the hymn books we use in Braille.
The stewards are used to making sure all people are accommodated as comfortably as possible.
